Luna Rose is a sweet, loving dog that was removed from an abusive situation and currently being fostered. She is such a thankful, little, love bug and wants nothing more than to be petted and spend time cuddling with you. She also loves car rides! Luna Rose needs a home of her own, a place to run, a couch to plop down on, and she especially needs—and deserves—a happy life!

She weighs approximately 30 pounds, is affectionate, friendly, and quiet. She is house-trained and up-to-date on all her vaccines. She has also been spayed. Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement & Rescue Center is a certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded 1999 and located on Rt. 49 in Chase City, Virginia. We are 100% volunteer run and operate solely on donations. We DO NOT sell or adopt out horses, but are dedicated to providing a permanent home and sanctuary to horses that have been abused, abandoned, and neglected. We also provide sanctuary to PMU foals, PMU mares and donkeys.

Blue Horse is home to a number of former thoroughbred racehorses that were either injured on the track or were not earning a profit. These horses are now happily living among our equine family members. Blue Horse was conceived when Gitchie came to live with us in Virginia Beach. He had been a Caisson at Arlington National Cemetery and was in need of a buddy. The rest is history. We saw a great need in the equine world to take in horses that otherwise may have met a horrible end. Our outreach programs include working with local children and teens to foster leadership and compassion through interaction with abused and abandoned animals. Our slogan, "Healing Horses, Heals Humans, Where Every Life Matters," is demonstrated each day in the loving care and devotion that is offered with every flake of hay, every scoop of grain, and every drink of water. For many of our residents, Blue Horse is a tiny slice of heaven right here on earth.

Blue Horse is also home to many abandoned or abused dogs. Most are hounds abandoned after hunting season. Dogs that are suitable for re-homing go to carefully screened forever homes. Ones that are not suitable for re-homing remain at Blue Horse.

FYI: Alpaca grooming involves annual shearing to manage their dense fleece, along with occasional toenail trimming. They also need their teeth trimmed. (Alpacas have hypsodont teeth, meaning they grow throughout their lives.) This group of cuties will receive their annual grooming and maintenance, thanks to Trevor & Ethan, two professional Alpaca groomers who travel two months out of the year from Western Australian. Isn’t that cool? They have a gentle touch which keeps the animals stress-free and calm and we’re looking forward to meeting them.

Their care will expensive, so donations are really needed and appreciated! If you’d like to help us care for our Alpacas, use the button below to donate. Every penny helps us care for these beautiful animals and your donation is 100% tax-deductible!
